Key Benefits of Remote Access & Mobility for the Public Sector

Emily Wijeyesinghe, Marketing Executive, Altiatech • Mar 06, 2020

Remote Working is Quickly Changing the Landscape of our Global Workforce.

Enabled by the rise of new technology, remote work has dramatically changed our work culture. Some are more familiar with the term “Telecommuting”. But whatever you choose to call it, organisations are adjusting their operations to serve the growing demands of a mobile workforce.

It’s predicted that by the end of this year, 50% of the UK workforce will adopt some form of remote working. And with 90% of UK employees saying they’d like to work remotely, at least part-time, the demand has never been higher.

In this post, we explore how the benefits of a remote working policy can be applied to the public sector. To cover recent events, examples of use cases have also been included.

Digital Transformation

Technological advancements have shaped our lives in numerous ways. It dictates how we communicate and interact with one another, influencing how we work, live and play. As a thriving digital society, technology has allowed employees to work from anywhere, anytime.

As private enterprises adopt remote working, public sector organisations need to adjust their services to reflect this as well. Executing a remote working strategy would bring public sector organisations right up to date with the modern workforce.

Seamless Communication

Communication tools such as Microsoft Office 365, Google Apps for Work or Dropbox have made it easier for people to stay connected anywhere in the world. The rise of these digital apps enables seamless communication among staff and clients while working from home, on the road or any environment you may find yourself.

Maximise Productivity

With the modern comforts of home, some argue remote workers can become easily distracted, however this is the opposite. According to a study by Airtasker, remote workers are statistically more productive, working 1.4 more days every month than people in an office.

Positive Employee Well-being

Having a remote working strategy can help improve work-life balance, make workers healthier and reduce sick leave. According to a report by Indeed, remote workers tend to take less sick days, with 50% of remote employees reducing their sick days.

Remote Access and Mobility

The public sector workforce is craving more flexibility and the opportunity not only to be more efficient but more effective when working remotely.

The organisations that are succeeding have identified remote working solutions, tools and policies to help drive impact and attract and retain top talent along the way.

If your organisation wants to thrive in the future, it’s time to adopt the new technologies that will help you meet the changing expectations of an evolving workforce.
