Digital Transformation
Cencora, a global pharmaceutical solutions company, acquired PharmaLex as part of its strategic expansion into regulatory and compliance services
With over 2,000 PharmaLex employees across 25 countries, the integration required rapid onboarding into Cencora's global systems without disrupting business-critical operations. Altiatech delivered a secure, phased IT integration programme that enabled seamless transformation across multiple time zones and regulatory environments.
The Challenge
Cencora needed to merge two complex technology ecosystems whilst ensuring compliance, security, and business continuity across global operations. PharmaLex operated on multiple regional systems, including disparate M365 tenants, collaboration platforms, and endpoint management tools.
The integration required:
- Onboarding 2,000+ users into Cencora's M365 environment
- Decommissioning regional legacy systems without data loss
- Implementing unified identity management and single sign-on
- Aligning security policies across both organisations
- Maintaining uninterrupted collaboration during transition periods
Our Approach
We led a governance-driven, phased integration model with executive oversight.
Our team collaborated directly with global IT stakeholders from both organisations to co-design a secure migration roadmap aligned to business milestones and regulatory requirements.
Key Deliverables:
- M365 Tenant Consolidation: Merged all PharmaLex users, mailboxes, OneDrives, and Teams content into the Cencora environment with zero data loss and minimal downtime.
- Identity & Access Management: Implemented Entra ID conditional access, multi-factor authentication, and lifecycle automation policies across all PharmaLex regions.
- Endpoint Standardisation: Migrated 2,000+ devices to Microsoft Defender for Endpoint with Autopilot provisioning and Intune compliance policies.
- Global Collaboration Platform: Standardised Teams and SharePoint structures for regulatory and clinical teams operating across Europe, Asia, and North America.
- Compliance & Security Alignment: Integrated all PharmaLex operations with Cencora's ISO, HIPAA, and GxP control frameworks.
The Results
The transformation delivered comprehensive organisational integration within a four-month timeframe, successfully migrating all 2,000+ users whilst achieving global standardisation of endpoint security and cloud collaboration platforms.
Zero disruption occurred to PharmaLex business services during the migration, establishing a unified governance structure that positioned the organisation for future acquisitions.
The integration improved IT responsiveness and reduced administrative overhead across the combined entity.
Altiatech continues as a strategic partner for Cencora, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, licence optimisation programmes, and the onboarding framework for future acquisitions into the global platform.
"This was a textbook integration. Altiatech provided speed, clarity, and control throughout the entire global onboarding of PharmaLex."
